Welcome to the Sensory Stimulation Enhancement Environment
Module 1.

This particular module's main purpose is to stimulate a visual
chemical response, which in turn will lead to a physiological result.
This specific chemical event will further stimulate a cognitive
occurrence, which will then lead to an overall perception of the
augmentation of one's senses.

This particular module contains the lyrics to the first six songs on
ASPoLaMIMfMM... CD.

Follow the evolution of this song, from its initial audible
primordial "electro-ooze" percussive stage, to its
emergence into an organized neolithic "electroGothTronic"
society of pitches and tones, which emanate from an
incubating time variant electronic fog.

Listen to the end of this sequence for the first utterance of
programmed vocal expression. That is synthetic..not a
human voice! That's some "darn fine, program'n, boy!"

Then there is silence.

From the silence, the symphony of expressive souls, with
melancholy in their bones, celebrate their freedom from an
earthly world of...OK..Ok..I'll stop.

Fully evolved, I picture this song being played in a movie
scene where the camera pans from the outside of a Gothic
castle to a party within as ghouls dance with their
"boo-friends" within this 19th century Gothic dance hall...

Track #14 is a POETRY Mix of "...Haunting Spirits," which
simply is the same lyrics with the "OBoingo Horn Section &
Symphony" muted. Also, other "synth" elements are more
prominent within this particular mix. Why do a POETRY Mix?
I just thought it sounded cool...
Promenade of the Haunting Spirits…

Promenade of the Haunting Spirits,
apparitions of a love long lost…

Promenade of the Haunting Spirits,
shadows of my true love's soul…

Promenade of the Haunting Spirits,
visit me as I sleep alone…

Promenade of the Haunting Spirits,
conceived by God's undistorted grace!
Musically, "Promenade" is a kind of  "ode" to
Danny Elfman, one of my initial musical
influences.

Lyrically, this song deals with the "emotional
torment" women of significance have put me
through over the years, as I would lay alone
thinking about, "thinking about" her, as the
night would meander incessantly. I'm over it
now...kinda
Costa Rican Beauty

I once wrote a pretty melody for my Costa Rican beauty!

She was Latina elegance my Costa Rican beauty!
She was latina class and style…
Latina of my dreams!
Rosa…

Dreams came true, 17 and so in love with you…
I was once so in love with you my Costa Rican beauty…

Time moves on…youthful dreams decay. Time moves on…
But every now and then I'll think of …
How she looked while she danced and moved with me…
How she smiled while her cat eyes…captured me.
Rosa…

We once danced under Hollywood's black lights…
Dreams came true, 17 and so in love with you…
Dreams…17!

I was once so in love with you my Costa Rican beauty.
I once wrote a pretty melody for my Costa Rican beauty…
Gothic Fog…

One day! Some day!
You will find you're…
out of control
Body and Soul…
without end!

Some day! One day!
You will know your…
Body and Soul
out of control…forever!

I desire you.
I so touched your soul.

Dream of
my love,
and you will be…
out of control
Body and Soul…
forever!

My love, that you dream of…
and the touch of my hand will take your
Body and Soul
out of control…
without end!

I desire you.
I so touched your soul.
Musically, Gothic Fog... is an acknowledgement
to another early musical influence, Giorgio
Moroder. Hence, the 16th note arpeggiators.
You'll notice I have dueling 16th note
arpeggiators, with one of them being
continuously panned left to right. Also, the bass
and the  "funky pianOrgan "is quantized hard
16th notes.

The song itself deals with and event that
occurred during my first date with a woman of
significance. Let's just say that we hit it off
really well during the date. I mean, WE hit if off!
It was just all so natural! I had no plan on
"evolving" our relationship to the heights that it
did later that particular night, within that
candlelit room...yet it happend nonetheless!

I'm not upset it happened, I just didn't expect it!
It's that whole "Doctrine of Species
Preservation" thing. However, "it" progressed
so quickly that the feel of the song, and the
vocal track itself, deals with the adrenaline rush
and dream,  "fog like," or surreal quality to
seeing this woman, well, as I did that particular
night.

At that particular point in time, no man has ever
felt more passion for any other woman...

Track # 15 is a POETRY Mix of Gothic Fog... I
heavily processed my vocal track and I liked
how the vocals have a surreal "trippy"
dream-like quality. So, I just wanted to show off
my programming chops...
Musically, I’ve always liked some rap/hip-hop arrangements. So, I once decided, one afternoon, to
alter some aspects of traditional rap/hip-hop to “Phylum” it up.

What I composed was a “GothicSEP-hop”song.

CRB is an odd fusion and mix of “electroGothTronic industrial SEPtecK” musical timbre
programmed and played to be hip-hopish, hip-hop “beats” played and programmed to be
“electroGothTronic industrial SEPtecK” sounding, and good ole’ delta blues 1-4-5 chord
progressions providing the structure.

Vocally, I know I can’t rap, but that doesn’t mean I can’t “Sep.” I was able to process the vocals with
eight layers of effects to get a kind of “robotic ghost in love, hauntingly trying to go back in time”
vibe, which I think worked for this song.

The “SpaceOrgan” timbre (sound), I think is a microcosm of the whole track. It has the tonal quality
of an organ; however, I’ve tweaked with the ring modulator to give it time-variant harmonics, or a
“synth” identity. I think the timbre is musical enough that I can picture a Chicago blues master
ripping out this riff on a vintage B-3 in some smoke filled blues club. About the “lead” or the “Rosa
riff,” for me, it’s probably one of my top 5 best “riffs” or hooks that I’ve ever written.

Lyrically, the song is simply about one of the most beautiful people that I have ever met.
Her name is obviously, Rosa.

I went to high school with her. She reminds me very much of my Muse. Rosa was physically
stunning, yet what made her truly beautiful was how simply nice of a person she was. We went out
on several occasions when we were both 17, yet we were never able to maintain any momentum
due to various reasons. I never even kissed her.

We once met by accident at Hollywood’s Florentine Gardens (dance club) and we danced for
several hours together. What was “cool” about that night was how it wasn’t at all planned, yet it just
worked.

The last time I saw her was on high school graduation day, waving at me, as she left the graduation
ceremony. I never saw her again…
Diffused Light…

I never meant to fall in love with you …
I never meant to combine our souls.
No regrets that we fell in Love!
No regrets that we lived our lives!

We made choices through diffused light…
the diffused light of our senses.
Good and evil do conspire
to create an illusion of a Truest Love, so real.

Like sweet…sweet Lenore…
your existence still assaults my sense of reason.
Visions of truest love, so precious,
clash with the fact that it's now all buried under
earth.

Tortured images emotionally paralyze me…
As I think of a pure love lost.
I never meant to fall in love with you …
I never meant to combine our souls.

I never meant for this to alter our perceptions of
what life is…

No regrets that we fell in Love!
No regrets that we lived our lives!
We made choices through diffused light…
the diffused light of our senses.

Much like sweet Lenore…
Usher's existence was modified.
Paradise lost was in his mind…
forever has been reprogrammed.

Life is nothing but impermanence…
yet it seems so very crystal clear.
We made choices through diffused light…
the diffused light of our senses.
If anyone ever does a modern interpretation
and short film of Edgar Allen Poe’s, “
Masque of
the Red Death
,” I picture Diffused Light being
played in the main hall.

The melody is rather “Goth.” The timbre is
“electroGothTronic industrial SEPtecK,”
programmed to be dark, yet inviting.

The inspiration for the rhythm of this particular
song is…well…uh… “Salt n’ Peppa’s,” Work it
Real Good (I think that’s the name of it).

I was playing around with my rhythm composer
one morning and for some reason the rhythm of
the song just happened, and yes I knew of the
SnP song when I came across it. It’s not an
exact replica, but that’s ok, too. I “Sep’d” it up,
instead of “Pep’d” it up…ok…I’ll stop.

The vocals, or VOX, again are heavily
processed, with the idea being more narrative
as opposed to “singer-ish.” This track is one of
my favorite programming sequences...eva

I pictured this vocal track to be Usher’s voice
(Usher, as in Poe’s The Fall of the House of
Usher), if he were to actually exist. I was
shooting for a narrator in the process of falling
into insanity, as opposed to an insane narrator.

The lyrics are about a conversation I once had
with someone I loved. The discussion dealt with
how our relationship “altered” our lives, for both
good and bad. My take was that we both knew
what we were doing, we both perceived at the
time that our decisions were based on sound
reasoning. However, we could not conclude as
to how we both let our emotions lead us into
emotional Hades. Consequently, the “in the
process of falling into insanity” tone to the VOX.

The point being is that we did what we did...
based on what seemed reasonable, or was it
what seemed desirable at the time? Hence, the
diffused light “thing.”
Alone

Tonight, I am alone.
Alone is how I've chosen to live.
It must be genetic…
It's just that I enjoy being alone.

Alone is my given soul…
I truly crave the silence it breeds.
I love my thoughts, and I love my ideas…
and I love my strength of body and mind.

Alone at this moment…
In a dark room I sit and wonder.
I appreciate the fact that I can do
"whatever" I want.

Alone is my given soul…
I truly crave the silence it breeds.
It must be divinely inspired…
It's just that I enjoy being alone.

Tonight, I am alone.
Alone is how I've chosen to live.
I love my thoughts, and I love my ideas…
and I love my strength of body and mind.

Alone at this moment…
In a dark room I sit and program.
I appreciate the fact that I can do
"whatever"
I want tonight, and tomorrow, and
forever…
Well, the explanation of “Diffused Light” should
explain the lyrical tone of this particular
composition.

After one decompresses from the stress of
“breaking up” with a true love, there’s that first
night (eventually) when you realize that it’s nice to
be home alone.

The tempo of the song epitomizes the inner
“peace” feeling that I got when I first had this
realization. It’s rather liberating and exciting to
know that you’re “moving on” to another stage of
your existence, and that the road is wide open to a
myriad of probabilities.

So, I climbed into my Gothic castle music studio,
which exists only in my head, and decided to
compose an “in the process of becoming a mad
scientist” dance song.

I was in a
Vince Clarke, of Depeche Mode and
Yaz, frame of mind. Musically, I tried different
things. It’s a 4 on the floor dance track. It has 80’s
qualities, especially evident during the chorus;
however, the musical timbre is definitely
“electroGothTronic industrial SEPtecK.”

As an example, if you listen to the bass it’s actually
not quantized “right on” beat and you get this
dotted eighth note slurred “thing” going on, which
gives it a “live” player feel, as opposed to the
1.1.0.0 feel that is readily evident on this particular
disc. Again, I was going for something different.

Also, I was into symbolism with this specific track.
As I mentioned earlier, the lyrical tone dealt with
the “liberation of being alone” sense that I had one
night.

So, I wanted a musical timbre to symbolize this
sense and I came across this atmospheric texture-
rich “Electric Wind” timbre that sweeps its filters
hard! What I liked about this timbre is that it
reminded me of how emotions can change much
like the wind…get it? Huh?

Another timbre I found intriguing was a filter sweep
that left a distorted residue of varying harmonics.

Lastly, on the “instrumental outro,” the last 16 or
24 measures of the song, is a version that I was
going to originally put on the disc before I decided
to go with a more “hard” atmospheric Gothsynth-
dance version.
When I First Held You is an attempt to create a
“dark,” but “adorable” love song for my niece
and nephew.

Oh sure she only likes Hillary Duff and he is a
Megaman fan. However, I’m sure in a couple of
years they will both appreciate it. Some friends
of mine are warning me that my niece and
nephew might not be able to go to bed for a
month after they listen to it. I’ve reassured
them that they already know that their uncle is
musically spooky.

I wrote the music for the song in one hour. It’s
one of those songs that just wrote itself.
Musically, the whole song is based upon the
bass line. It’s just a cool timbre! The lead and
padding for the track is a Juno 106 emulation,
god I love that sound, it’s so synth, yet… well…
pretty.

The lyrics are obviously a declarative
statement from “uncle me” to my baby-way-
Bees. Ok, I’ve never actually called them that,
but for the sake of this particular written
composition, it shall suffice, you get the drift.
When I First Held You

Dear Jessica, your uncle loves you.
Dear Jessica, forever…
When I first held you
on the day that you were born
my life did change because of you.

Dear Garrett, your uncle loves you.
Dear Garrett, forever…
When I first held you
on the day that you were born
my life did change because of you.
